Travelers heading to popular destinations this Thanksgiving
Friday, October 12, 2012
While Thanksgiving is traditionally a time to be with family, there is no rule that says everybody cannot hop on a plane and spend the holiday in serviced apartments. Based on recently released data from airfare search engine Fly.com, many individuals are planning to take vacations in popular destinations this November.
Of the more than 3 million Fly.com users polled, New York City was found to be the most searched destination for a Thanksgiving vacation. The Big Apple was followed by Honolulu, Hawaii; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Rounding out the top 10 most searched locations were cities such as Chicago, Illinois, and Dallas, Texas.
Interest in several of these destinations is being fueled by low prices for fall airfare. For instance, Fly.com reports that the average best fare for a roundtrip to Honolulu this year is $603, which is down 20 percent from $758 one year earlier.
"Savvy travelers know a good fare when they see one," said Warren Chang, Fly.com's vice president and general manager. "So it is not surprising to see that some Americans are traveling to destinations that take them away from past holiday traditions."
